BUDDHIST THOUGHT: A Cup Of Tea A Zen story to inspire us to be mindful and live in the here and now. "...our simple cup of tea should be an awakening experience and high teaching, but if we take that example seriously, we should consider our trips to the supermarket and the decisions we face in the aisle choosing one olive oil over another as a practice of mindfulness and presence. "Go have a cup of tea" can be translated as "see your whole life as your spiritual path." Go fill up your tank of gas, wash your dishes, speak to your loved ones on the phone, tie your shoelaces, shower, jog, meditate with a desire to be present. The motivation we bring into our activities is what differentiates them between being spiritual teachings and selfish pursuits. If our activities are motivated from a desire to be present, to expand our awareness of what being alive is, and as a path to help others and let go of some of my self-centeredness, then anything we may be doing can serve as an awakened practice."
