13th Annual Open Mountain Ceremony

You are invited to Bak Lim Sa Korean Temple in Summitville, NY, for the 13th Annual Open Mountain Ceremony to commemorate the completion of the building of the Community living quarters on the grounds. This promises to be a wonderful day of celebration and a fulfilling retreat experience. Please contact Sue Yen Sunim 860-459-6255 if you are interested in carpooling.

See the flier for more information! Namu.

Dae Yen Sa Film Festival!

Please join in our nine-week "Film Festival" Series, each Friday, starting the 9th of September. We gather at 7:00 PM, and will start the movie at 7:30. The showings, and as many thereafter as weather will permit is outdoors - kind of like a "drive-in"! Should be fun!! With that in mind, dress accordingly, bring lawn chairs, cushions, blankets, what have you. Also, you might want to consider some bug repellent - you never know what other sentient beings may want to attend.

The movies will all have a Buddhist theme or story, and are pretty much family appropriate. One of the movies that we are aware of does have a scene or two that could be considered "mature". When this one comes up, we will notify you in the reminder e-mail.

Our license to show these movies prohibits us from using the names of the films in these temple-wide announcements. For information about the movie title, ratings (if available - some of the films are not rated), and descriptions of the film can be given on an individual basis by contacting Lori Chernyha at .

So, please come and enjoy the show!! We encourage you to bring family, friends, neighbors, whomever.

We ask for a five dollar donation to the temple to cover costs, and this will include popcorn and hot chocolate or bottled water.

We will send announcements weekly with a description of the featured film, and any specifics that may apply. Again for further information contact Lori via e-mail.

Hope to see you all there,

Enlightened Seon (Zen) Master Jinje , the 79th Patriarch in the Korean lineage of the Buddha, traved to the West for the first, and perhaps only, time. For those that were not able to see the event in person, the event is available online.

Wednesday evening dharma school!

Please come on Wednesdays, at 7 PM for meditation, meditation, shared reading and discussion (plus a fruit party!). Individuals of all paths and beliefs are welcome; the only requirement is an open heart and mind. Dharma study is free; donations supporting temple efforts are appreciated.

This is a very rich and exciting new 25-week study beginning next Wednesday.
The course, entitled "Finding One Buddhism: From Scripture to No Doctrine", is being led by Brother Aaron Doyle. We are all grateful for his time, teaching, insights and big heart!

This terrific sharing of Wisdom will help us enter into questions of Buddhist identity, provide new insights on Buddha-Dharma and help nourish us on the Bodhisattva path.

Participate for all 25 weeks, or as you can. Syllabus is attached.

Also, there is great beauty in the support of the Sangha (community). We may practice individually, but we do not walk the path alone. We have each other.

I am grateful for your wisdom, encouraged by your commitment to the practice, and feel privileged to be able to gather as community in this very special way.

If you are a regular visitor to Sangha, then you understand. If you have not yet experienced Dae Yen Sa, we invite you, with the wide open 1,000 arms of Kwan Seum Bosal, the Bodhisattva of Supreme Compassion, to come and see.

So Welcome ... we hope to see you on Wednesday 7/13/11 at 7pm.

ps. Feel free to bring a dharma buddy with you!

Chanting & Meditation 7 pm - 7:45 pm

Dae Yen Sa Dharma School 7:45 pm - 8:30 pm

Thanks and Namu!

Much Metta.

The Dharma class briefly practiced a form of movement meditation at the end of our Dharma study evening called Sati Meditation. It's a profoundly powerful technique for developing present-moment awareness, as it's not possible to let the mind wander while doing it. Sati meditation is also a great way to exercise your ability to alternate between using the left and right hemispheres of the brain.

If you would like more information, and to watch videos of the technique performed by a master of it, please visit I recommend reading some of the accompanying literature to help understand the background.

If you, or anyone you know, has an interest in presenting a workshop/lecture/training that is relevant and appropriate to Buddhist principles and practice, please speak with Eduardo. At present, the Temple does not have funds for lecturers. Any presentation would be considered a donation would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Buy a special book!

Aerim Kim, the author of this lovely book of poetry is a frequent visitor at Dae Yen Sa Temple. Her poetry style is free, fresh, heartfelt, and full of a joyful sparkle of emotion. The late Zen Master Seung Shang described Aerim's poetry as "zen poems".

The Kim's have supplied the temple with many copies of this book in order to help support the printing needs of the temple. Please contact Sue Yen Sunim to purchase copies of the book for your personal library. You can help build an important network! Please let the temple and the Kim's know of any valuable networking connections to continue keeping this wonderful book in the public's eyes and hearts!

Dae Yen Sa plans on binding several of their prayer books together into one volume for members to use during prayer and ceremonies.

Special Mentions!

A very special thanks goes out to Ms. Grace Kim of Blooming Ridgefield who provides many of the beautiful flower arrangements at the temple. Please visit her site at .
