Reqirement - open minds and open hearts Study Topic Way of the Bodhisattva by 8th Century Master, Shantideva Chapter 6- Patience (verses 1-69) This well-known and loved text focuses on the cultivation and enhancement of Bodhicitta-a quality of completely open, or completely awakened heart and mind. Chapter 6 Patience In Buddhism, anger is the most destructive of all mental factors. The emotion of anger, which is a flooding of the mind with violent and aggressive feelings, leads naturally to hostility. In a flash of hositility all the merit we have gained on the way is eliminated. Even righteous anger is condemned, since it can overpower our mind and eliminate our concentration and our Bodhicitta focus. The only antidote is Patience with a capital “P”. We will explore the nature of anger. Ways of seeing anger. And ways of catching and working with our anger in order to live more lovingly and compassionately. “All the good works gathered in a thousand ages, such as deeds of generosity, and offerings to the blissful ones – a single flash of anger shatters them.
